Our comprehensive AVG business antivirus review covers 45 days of testing across 15 endpoints, evaluating everything from malware detection to management console usability for small businesses.

AVG Business Antivirus is owned by the same parent company as Avast (Gen Digital), sharing the same core detection engine. However, AVG positions itself as the more affordable, simplified option for smaller teams.

Testing Setup

We deployed AVG Business on 15 endpoints (12 Windows, 3 Mac) across two SMB test environments for 45 days. Testing included malware detection against 400+ samples, performance impact measurements, and console usability assessments.

Protection & Detection

AVG achieved a 97.1% detection rate in our tests, nearly identical to Avast’s 97.4%. The behavioral analysis engine caught most fileless malware and ransomware variants. However, AVG’s lower-tier plans lack the advanced threat intelligence features found in Avast’s Premium and Ultimate tiers.

Management Console

The AVG Business console is simpler than Avast’s, which is both a strength and a weakness. Setup is straightforward — we deployed across 15 endpoints in under an hour. However, the reporting dashboard is more basic, with fewer customization options for compliance reports.

Performance Impact

Average CPU impact was 2.3% during idle and 7.8% during full scans — slightly better than Avast. Memory usage averaged 180MB per endpoint, making it one of the lighter solutions we tested.
